Just a little taste…
They had been dating off and on for three years, although a more appropriate term for their relationship would probably be ‘ongoing booty call’ with benefits. When she had met him at Mandy’s annual Fourth of July barbeque, she was taken immediately by his charisma. He circulated the crowd charming everyone he spoke to. Mandy let it slip that Taylor had recently broken up with his girlfriend, so Kinze decided then and there that she had to have him. They had great conversation, but it wasn’t until they met again at another friend’s luau later in the summer did they start to talk to each other on a personal level. Back then, neither of them felt they had the time to put into a real relationship.
Both were single, drug and disease free adults. His free spirit and open mindedness led Kinze to believe that he would be up for a special relationship that could benefit both of them. He was reluctant at first, but once Kinze laid out the rules of their unique relationship, Taylor to her surprise, agreed, readily. The situation worked well for them. She would call him when the mood struck and he would call her. Soon Taylor began to invite her to social or professional functions as well. Her job as a teacher didn’t have many events where she would need a date, but she was glad to accompany him when he needed someone on his arm. They had gone to some of themost beautiful places in the world to meet his advertising clients. It was wonderful sharing those experiences with him. After a while they started to spend holidays and birthdays together, too. Even when she needed a shoulder to cry on Taylor was the first person she turned to.
Officially, they were still under the terms they laid out years ago. They were free to date and sex up whomever they pleased. Informing the other person was a courtesy, barring any health issues, but not mandatory. Though Kinze found being with anyone else hard to do. Somewhere along the line she had fallen in love with Taylor. She had not been with another man since the first year she and Taylor got together. It broke her heart to think he still considered her nothing more than a friend at best.
A young girl pulled on her tunic bringing Kinze from her private thoughts. She put her best smile in place and got back into character, handing the child her gift. It was the last day Santa would be at the mall and later there would be a party for those who helped with the shop. Santa and his helpers saw children until the line thinned to nothing. Done for the day, Taylor took Kinze by the hand and pulled her into the break room. He sat at a table in the corner and pulled her between his knees.
“I feel like you’ve been distant with me today.” He pulled off the hat and wig and took her hands. “I know you’re not angry with me about that woman…are you?”
“No, Tay, I’m not mad. I guess, well, I guess she just made me a little jealous,” Kinze admitted, turning away from him.
“Jealous? Really? Wow, I never took you for the jealous type, Kinney. Kinze Dawson, consumed by the green eyed monster,” he teased dramatically.
“No, not consumed,” she corrected quickly.
“Uh-huh.”
“It was merely a small attack, not a hostile takeover.”
He laughed. “Well that’s good to know. There shouldn’t be a reason for even a small attack of jealousy. I mean, we’re not exclusive.” She allowed him to turn her face back to his. “Right?”
“Yeah. Of course, right.”
“Uh-huh. Besides, she wasn’t my type.”
“You have a type?” she questioned with a raised brow.
“Of course, doesn’t everyone?”
Kinze smiled, as she wrapped her hands around his neck. “Okay, so what is your type?”
“My type is a woman who would take time from her busy life to dress up in dark green tights and a short brown tunic with antlers on her head and a bulbous red nose on her face just to help out a friend. It’s just a plus when she looks good doing it.”
